GALEN MELLINGER

Galen Mellinger, 55, a mail clerk with the Iowa Public Service Co., died of a heart attack in the company office at 7:55 a.m. Thursday.

He was born September 21, 1895 near Clarksville, Iowa, the son of James and Katherine (Hickle) Mellinger. He later moved to Waverly, Iowa, and then started a creamery business in Plainfield, Iowa, where he operated until entering the army in World War I.

On September 21, 1922, he married Muriel Crawford at Osage, Iowa, and the couple located at Nashua, Iowa, where he was in the feed mill business 18 years.

In 1943 they moved to Waterloo where Mr. Mellinger began working with the Iowa Public Service Co.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Kearns Garden Chapel. Rev. Charles F. Jacobs, pastor of the First Congregational Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Nashua, Iowa.

Surviving are the wife, a daughter; Mrs. Leroy Zack, 209 Hawthorne, and one granddaughter.

Mr. Mellinger was a member of the Congregational Church at Nashua and of the Becker-Chapman Post of the American Legion here.

Galen Mellinger married Muriel Crawford, the daughter of Frank E. Crawford and Martha Elizabeth (Hudson) Crawford. Muriel was born June 10, 1896 in Mitchell Co., Iowa and died March 1983 in Waterloo. She is also buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, Chickasaw, Iowa. Her parents are buried in the Osage Cemetery.
