Obituary
Arthur Weston Bigelow

Arthur Weston Bigelow, whose death was briefly mentioned in the last issue of this paper, passed away at his home in Chicago July 25, 1906, aged 25 years, 3 months and 8 days.

The deceased was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bigelow and was born in New Hampton April 17, 1881. At the age of 3 he went with his parents to live in Minneapolis and in 1890 they removed to Chicago, where he had lived ever since. He received an excellent education in the grammar schools and at an early age entered business life. He was for five years in the general offices of the Illinois Central railroad, but about 5 months ago accepted a position as accountant with the Sherwin-Williams Co. at Pullman, Illinois.

The cause of death was valvular heart trouble. All his life he had been more or less troubled with his heart, being overcome at times. A week before he was taken sick he fell as a result of heart trouble after running to catch a train. Then for 10 weeks he lingered in a steady decline which baffled the fine physicians who were constant in their efforts and attendance.

Mr. Bigelow was married October 8, 1904 to Miss Loretta Riley. The heartbroken young wife and the little year-old daughter, Dorothy Weston Bigelow, are left to mourn the absence of husband and father, one whose strong manliness and tender devotion were lavished upon them so abundantly.

Arthur was popular among his business associates, his employers showing the utmost consideration during his long illness. The solicitude of his fellow workers in the railroad office was also sincerely manifested and at his death they united in the presentation of a beautiful floral emblem.

The religious convictions and experiences of the deceased were such as to exemplify the high type of Christian. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church of Chicago and a member of its society as well as numerous other societies connected with church work.

The remains arrived in New Hampton last Friday morning, and were taken to the home of the grandparents of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Gardner, where at 6:30 pm the funeral sermon was preached by Dr. Parker of the ME church. Interment was at Graceland. Accompanying the remains from Chicago were the parents of the deceased, his wife, her brother, Mr. Walter Riley.
