I'm not exactly sure why I'm looking for John O. Swanson - listed as a resident of Diamond Township, Cherokee County in 1920 U.S. Census - except for the fact that he traveled back to Sweden in 1920 with Mons Elk of Galva, the husband of Ida Jacobson Elk (my grandfather's aunt.)
Oh, and he's also mentioned in Ida's 1936 obituary as someone she traveled to the United States with as either her brother or her uncle or both. (The sentence in the obit is super unclear.
Here's the other things I know about John Swanson: He was born (presumably in Sweden) in 1855 and died in 1938 and is buried in the Galva Cemetery just south of the school. He had many children: Esther V. Swanson (1892-1947), George J. Swanson (1 June 1888-19 March 1957), Milo S. D. Swanson, Rena Swanson Goettsch and several others. I'm guessing that his wife (buried alongside the above-named children in the Galva Cemetery) was Sophia Swanson (1865?-1917).
If anyone knows anything about this family, I'd love to hear from you. I'm just trying to figure out how this man was related to Ida and whether any of his descendents would be interested in the information I've gathered so far about the family.
Thanks,
Erica Jacobson
