Veronica Magdalene Waters, 97, of Cherokee, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in her home following a brief illness.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee. rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home. A rosary will be said by the Catholic Daughters of America at 4 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Veronica was born December 31, 1906 in Pocahontas to Joseph and Eleanor (Bartosh) Eral. She attended country school in Pocahontas County. On May 27, 1929 she married William Vincent Waters in Pocahontas. He preceded her death in 1957. They owned and operated various businesses in Cherokee since 1930. During her life, Veronica worked for various retail stores in Cherokee. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ladies Union. Veronica was an avid bridge player and a great proponent of a Christian education.

Memorial donation to the Veronica and Wm. Vincent Waters Christian Educational fund may be made in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters: Veronica Ann Tankersley of Hillsboro, Ore., and Eleanor Thill and her husband Gene of Spencer; four sons: David Waters and his wife Ellen of Madisonville, K?.; William V. "Bill" Waters and his wife Mary of Little Rock, Ark.; John Waters and his wife Jo Ann of Westminister, Colo.; Patrick Waters and his wife Brenda of Charlotte, Vt.; 26 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Ken Putzier of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wm. Vincent Waters; daughter Mary Putzier; son-in-law Wm. J. Tankersley; two sisters and two brothers.
