Rev. Henry V. Weimer, 82, of 1122 Grandview Blvd., Sioux City, Iowa died Monday, November 20, 1995 at his residence of natural causes.
Services will be held Friday, November 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Cherokee, Iowa. The Most Rev. Lawrence D. Soens, Rev. James Smith and Rev. George McFadden will concelebrate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral home, Cherokee. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born June 19, 1913 in Larrabee, Iowa to Joseph and Anna (Woelfel) Weimer. He attended school in Larrabee and later graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Cherokee, in 1931. He attended Trinity college in Sioux City for four years, receiving a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in 1935. He studied theology at St. Mary's in Baltimore, Maryland before being ordained into the priesthood by Bishop Edmund Heelan on May 21, 1939 at the Cathedral in Sioux City.
During his life the parishes that Fr. Weimer had served were: St. Joseph's, LeMars, Iowa; St. John's, Bancroft, Iowa; St. Mary's, Ute, Iowa; Sacred Heart, Spencer, Iowa; and St. Lawrence, Carroll, Iowa. In 1962 he was appointed to the Heelan High faculty in Sioux City where he spent the next 15 years. He then served as pastor in Moville, Iowa 1972 to 1979. He was then transferred to parishes in Ashton, Iowa, Ruthven, Iowa and Aryshire, Iowa until his retirement in 1988.
Survivors include one sister Mrs. Katherine Fessler, Larrabee; two brothers, George Weimer and his wife Darline, Cahokia, Illinois; and Anthony Weimer and his wife Marlie, Lansing, Michigan; also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John (September 1994).
