Grandma's scrapbook
1880--1969

Harriet August( Hattie ) Bushnell, the daughter of Henry and Sophia Bushnell, was born Aug. 10, 1880 in Pilot Township, Cherokee County Ia. , and died on Aug.26, 1969 at Cherokee at the age of 88.

Her marriage to George F. Melton took place on Dec. ,23, 1903, north of Cherokee. The couple farmed in Afton Township for many years before moving to Cherokee early in 1943.

Preceding her in death was a daughter in 1928 and her husband, George in Mar. of 1943; also her parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Five daughters survive, Ruth Goodrich , Shawnee Mission Kan., Helen Boardman, San Jose, Calif., Doris Uken of Perry, Ia., Marjorie Melton of Wheaton Md., And Jean Muldowney, Sioux City. Also surviving are, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Two sisters- in -law, Mrs. Ella Melton of Cherokee and Mrs. Rose Bushnell of Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services were held on Oct., 30 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church , Dr. V.V. Schuldt officiated. Mrs. Ivan Bushlow was organist, accompaning the soloist, Hobert Johnson, as he sang " Sweet Hour of Prayer" : and " How Great Thou Art", with Mrs. William Robinson playing the accompaniment for " Beautiful Isle of Somewhere, " on the Violin.

Casket bearers were Lew Crane, Oren Kelly, Ed. Klumpp, Russell Parks, George Smith and Ray Smith. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Dr. Schuldt also conducted a family prayer service at the Boothby Funeral Home the morning prior to the service.
