Vernon Bauer, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of rural Cherokee, Iowa died December 26, 2016 in Storm Lake.
Funeral Mass will take place Thursday, December 29, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Mary Hill Visitation Church Cemetery in rural Cherokee.
Vernon Bauer was born July 4, 1929 in Cherokee, Iowa the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Glassmaker) Bauer. He was baptized, received 1st communion, and confirmed at Mary Hill Catholic Church in rural Cherokee. Growing up, he attended school in Cleghorn, Iowa where he graduated high school.
Following high school graduation, Vernon joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged.In his spare time, Vernon enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a n extremely devoted farmer for many years Vernon also enjoyed watching sports, especially Notre Dame. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters. Bernice (Bill) Dickson of Carroll, Iowa, Dorothy O’Meara of Rochester, Minnesota, Alice (Don) Speers of Storm Lake, Iowa, numerous nieces and nephews Paul Wilberding, JoAnn Tentinger, Mike Dickson, Gary Dickson, Vicki Humlicek, Donna Dickson, Kathy Johnson, Rick O’Meara, Karen Oyen, Ron Speers, Deanna McGowan, Tim Speers, Lisa Weber, extended family and friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elizabeth Bauer, sister, Geraldine Wilberding, brothers-in-law Alfred Wilberding and James O’Meara, and nephew Jeff Dickson.
