Richard R. Mahler, 71, of rural Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 18, 1997, in the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee.
Mr. Mahler was born on August 18, 1926, in Buena Vista County, Iowa to Theodore and Sophia (Hasenwinkel) Mahler. He had worked as a farmhand for a number of years. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. On September 7, 1958, he married Dolores Goosen at Aurelia, Iowa. He had lived on an acreage in Pilot Township since 1968 and prior to this had lived in Cherokee. He had worked for Carey Buick for many years and then for Bushlow's Inc. for over 20 years retiring in August 1991. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores; two sons: Bryan Mahler and his wife, Christina, Alamogordo, New Mexico and Blaine Mahler, Cherokee; a daughter, Diane Mahler, Sioux City; three grandchildren: Nicholas and Megan Mahler; and Audra Yates; a brother Walter Mahler, Cherokee; and four sisters: Leona and her husband, Albert Holland, Owatonna, Minnesota; Florence Buddenhagen, Aurelia, Iowa; Irene Mandernach, Storm Lake, Iowa; and Rosalyn Puhrmann, Litchfield, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dawn Yates in 1990; two brothers: Emmett and Elmer Mahler; and two sisters: Clara Zoffka; and Lavera Mahler.
