Edward Fred Hinkeldey, of Storm Lake, died July 16, at Buena Vista County Hospital. Services were held Tuesday, July 19th at Grace Lutheran Church at Storm Lake. Burial was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Alta.
Edward, son of Herman and Sophia (Honsbruch) Hinkeldey was born on December 13, 1906 on his parents’ farm southwest of Alta.
Ed married Leone Fahr on August 22, 1933 at Galva, Iowa and to this union a daughter JoAnn and son Roger were born. They farmed for many years until 1951 when they moved to Cherokee, and he went to work as a carpenter for the Osterling Construction Company until 1958 when he returned to farming. Ed enjoyed many hobbies of fishing, bowling, and playing dartball in his younger years and was involved with the senior citizens center in the later years.
He was very active in the Lutheran Church being an Elder, President of the LLL and President of the Voters Assembly, as well as being a strong supporter of the Lutheran Hour. He was on the building committee for Trinity Lutheran of Cherokee and Alta and St. John’s at Hanover. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Storm Lake.
Ed retired in 1983 and passed away on July 16, 1994, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 3 days. He was preceded in death by his wife Leone, his parents, an infant brother, brothers Albert, Herman and Martin and one sister, Anna.
His survivors include his daughter JoAnn and her husband Lloyd Boettcher of Storm Lake; a son Robert and his wife Janet of Prospect Heights, Illinois; a sister Freida and her husband Eitel Mohn of Aurelia; Five grandchildren: Kevin Boettcher, Irish Boettcher, Ione Boettcher Butler, Kayla Boettcher and Barry Hinkeldey; Four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
