Grace E. Kelly, 100, Cherokee, died Dec 22 in the Country Side Estates following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be Dec. 24 from the Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee.

She was born on Dec. 27, 1891 in Cherokee County to Alonzo and Elizabeth Peck Lawrey. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1911. She then taught Country School for 2 years and went to work for the Gas Company until her marriage to Richard Kelly in 1915. She lived in Cherokee all of her life. She was a member of Carnation Chapter #165, Order of Eastern Star, the Cherokee Garden Club, a charter member of the Cherokee Country Club. She was a well-known gardener and winner of many flower awards over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in March of 1944, a daughter Elizabeth Stern Thorne in April of 1988.
