Fred D. Miles, 87, of Cherokee died Sunday, Jan. 5 at 8:25 a.m. in the Sutherland Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services are Wednesday, Jan 8 at the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There is a flag presentation at the cemetery by the V.F.W. The Boothby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born on April 23, 1915 at Cherokee to Zara Albert and Hulda (Barnes) Miles. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked for several restaurants in the area including the Lewis Hotel, Speelmon’s Steak House and the Red Door Café retiring in 1980. He was affiliated with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Eagles Club He enjoyed fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Albert, Roy, Walter and Loyd Miles, three sisters Nellie Lindgard, Bessie Bonzall and Grace Haynes.

He is survived by a sister Myrtle White of Lamoni, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
