Marie M. Menke, 81, of 1006 Birch, Cherokee, died Sept 7 at Cherokee Villa following a short illness.

Memorial services will be conducted Thursday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cherokee.

Elders Lonnie Meister and Edna White will officiate. The remains will be buried in the Liberty Township Cemetery in Calumet at a later date. Greenwood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Dec. 24, 1910, in Cherokee to William and Rose (Conley) Lucas. She married LeRoy Menke on June 24, 1929, in Calumet. They farmed near Calumet for many years. She lived in Cherokee County since 1953 and had worked a housekeeper for many people in the community for more than 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Jan. 2, 1968; two sons, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois Ceder, of Lakewood, Colo.; three granddaughters, Mrs. Glenn (Carol) Behrens, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Mrs. Lonnie (Cindy) Meister, of Columbus, Neb.; Mrs. Wayne (Christy) Barnes, of Sioux City; two grandsons, Kenny Menke and his wife Stephanie; and Ray Menke Jr., of Stafford, Va.; a sister, Anna Fedderson, of Hartley; seven great-grandchildren.
