Virgil Buck 91, passed away on May 1, 2010, in Brighton, Colorado, in the company of his wife Joyce (Elliott) Buck and his second son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Linda Buck. A veteran’s service and burial was held on Wednesday May 5, 2010, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
Virgil was born on July 24, 1919, in Ida County to Roy and Edith (Cipperley) Buck. He was raised on a farm near Washta, and graduated Washta High School.
Virgil enlisted in the Army in 1941, and subsequently completed Army Air Corps cadet training and was commissioned as a Second Lt. and served until he was discharged in 1945. He then returned to Washta, where he established and operated a hardware store for several years, until returning to farming in the Washta and Correctionville area.
Virgil and Joyce re-located to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1966, where they owned and operated an RE brokerage firm.
In 1980, he and Joyce moved to southern Arizona, where they resided near their oldest son, Steven, until 2007, at which time they moved to their current address in Brighton, which is near their second son, Joel, and his wife Linda.
During his life, Virgil was active with the following organizations: Washta School Board, where he was a former President; Boy Scouts; American Legion; and the Masonic and Shrine Lodges
Virgil was preceded in death by his father and mother, Roy and Edith; an older brother, Wayne who was killed in WWII; an infant son, Michael; a younger brother, Alfred; a younger sister, Carol (Larsen); and an older sister, Naida (Elliott).
He is survived by an older sister, Alice Hind; son Steven and his wife Lee Buck; son Joel and his wife, Linda (Lenz); son Wayne and his wife Vicki (Lang); one daughter, Barbara; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren
Virgil will dearly miss his frequent social interaction with friends and family, and he will be dearly remembered by his children as a loving father.
