Mary Ann M’Millan Hunter
There was great surprise and genuine sadness throughout the city on Sunday, when the news of the death of Mrs. A. L. Hunter was announced.

On Friday she was taken slightly ill, but was able to be about until Sunday, when she was seized with a feeling of despondency and in the early afternoon she passed away suddenly and peacefully from heart disease. Her death, coming so suddenly, was a terrible shock to her family, and the entire community goes out to them in this darkest hour of their lives.

Mary Ann McMillan was born in West Branch, Nova Scotia, Jan 10, 1857 and at the time of her death was thus 29 years of age. She came to Cherokee in 1873 in company with Mrs. A. B. Ross and about six years ago was married to L. A. Hunter. Her parents are both living in Nova Scotia. She was the eldest child of a family of eleven, and is the first of the family to pass away, having six sisters and four brothers living. Two of the sisters are residents of Cherokee, the Misses Charlotte and Elizabeth McMillan. She leaves two children, a bright boy of five and a babe of eight months. Mrs. Hunter was a lady of many fine qualities, a kindly wife and a loving mother and a friend to be esteemed. An overflowing measure of sympathy is extended Mr. Hunter and the loved ones in their affliction, and if kind words would heal breaking hearts they would be spoken in abundance.

The funeral services took place at 2 o’clock today, Rev. J. MacAllister conducting the exercises. As a mark of respect for a brother member the Knights of Pythias attended the funeral in a body.
