ALBERT WADDELL, COUNTY PIONEER, TAKEN BY DEATH
Last Rites Held Today At Aurelia, Long His Home

Aurelia – Funeral services for Albert H. Waddell, 88, pioneer Cherokee county resident who once was a member of the jury that presided at the trial of Sitting Bull, famous renegade Indian chief, who died at 10:40 o’clock Sunday morning following a long illness were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. He had lived here since 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Waddell would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary February 18, if he had lived.

Last rites were held at the Methodist church here Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. L. H. Preul officiating. Kroll Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include the widow and five living children, 39 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. The children are Mrs. John Dyslin of Aurelia, Guy Waddell of Elk, Wash.; Ray Waddell of Alcester, S.D.; Mrs. Morton Converse of Aurelia and W.C. Waddell of Aurelia.

The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary 18 years ago when the marriage ceremony was reenacted at the Methodist church here with the Rev. G. Gilbert performing.

From Wisconsin – Mr. and Mrs. Waddell came to Aurelia from Wisconsin in a covered wagon. They lived on their farm six miles south of Aurelia until 1905 when they retired and moved into town.

Mr. Waddell’s death separated the couple probably longest wed in this county or in this area. Their 67th anniversary was celebrated at their home about a year ago.

Mr. Waddell’s hobby was his flower garden where he cared for his attractive blooms by himself. His age was 88 years, eight months and one day when his death occurred.
