Ruby E. Wetherell, 85, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Spencer, Sutherland and Cherokee, died Thursday June 17, at 12:20 a.m. in the Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 19th at 11 a .m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Charles W. Schoeninger of the First Christian Church in Spencer will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Ruby was born on March 8, 1919 at Cherokee to Ernest and Lula (Cougill) Dicks. She was married to Clifford J. Wetherell on March 31, 1940 at Marcus. She had worked at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital for about 10 years and at the Hilltop Nursing Home in Cherokee as the Activities Director for several years. Ruby has been a resident of the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit lake since November 2003 and prior to this had lived in Spencer, Sutherland and Cherokee. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Spencer, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Leisure Living Camping Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband Clifford and three daughters: Delores Swanson and her husband Darrell of Spirit Lake; Patty Schulenberg and her husband Rick of Des Moines; four grandchildren : Bryan Swanson and his wife Amanda; Linda Cline and her husband James; Susan Coulander and her husband Cory; Jeremy Schulenburg; six great grandchildren: Jessica, Kyle, Eric, Caleb, Jonathan and Tyler; two sisters: Betty Olson of McAllen, Texas; Dorothy Koeppen of Robbinsdale, Minn.; also many nieces, nephews cousins and a host of friends.
