Theodore G. "Gilbert" Webb, 67, of Weslaco, Texas, former long time Cherokee resident, died June 17 in the Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora, Ill., while visiting his son. Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 22, at the Boothby Funeral Home. There were military rites at the funeral home by VFS L.A. Wescott Post #2253. Mr. Gregg Johnson officiated.
He was born Jan. 17, 1926 in Cherokee to Theodore G. and Elsie Chiles Webb. He graduated from Cherokee High School and then attended one year of college at N.B.T. in Sioux City. He was married to Doris Sevey on July 20, 1947, at Quimby. He was a veteran of WWII, and he was a member of the local VFW. He had been an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 41 years, serving as Cherokee postmaster the last six years prior to his retirement. he had been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for many years.
His survivors include: his wife, Doris; two sons, Gilbert and his wife, Linda, of Aurora, Ill., and Terry and his wife Joanne, of Mesa, Ariz; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Webb of Aurora, and Tera, Tracie and Tosha Webb of Mesa; his mother, Elsie Webb, Cherokee; three brothers, Darrell and his wife, Joanne, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Earl and his wife, Connie, Guthrie Center; and Willard and his wife JoAnne, Calif.; four sisters, Elsie and her husband, Carrol Tigges, Peterson; Darlene and her husband, Gene Williams, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Velma and her husband, Merritt Jenness, Marcus; and Donna and her husband, Rodney Groepper, Cherokee; also numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1975 and one infant sister.
