ANOTHER OLD SETTLER ANSWERS THE LAST CALL
Philander P. Bennett Passes Away at Home in This City
Another of Cherokee's old veterans, Philander P. Bennett, has heard the last bugle call and has gone to join the great majority. He passed away at his home yesterday morning, succumbing to old age and a complication of ailments.
The deceased was born in Ohio, March 21, 1831. The family came to Cherokee in 1870. He was united in marriage to the wife who survives him fifty seven years ago next April. To them were born nine children, five of whom survive the father. Those are Mrs. John Jobe of Cherokee; Mrs. Emma Sanger of Quimby; Mrs. Lucretia Walker of Rockford, IL.; Mrs. Mary E. Howard of Sioux City and Mrs. Susan C. Bensley of Iroquois, S. D.
As a soldier in the Civil War, Mr. Bennett served his country well. He was a member of the 123rd Illinois Infantry and served three years.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon, services at the house at 2 o'clock and at the Baptist Church at 2:30.
