ANOTHER OLD SETTLER GONE
Mrs. Almira Pettengill, who was one of the very old settlers of Cherokee county died on Wednesday, May 5, 1897 at the home of her son, Chas. Pettengill, northeast of Cherokee.
Deceased was 58 years of age. Her health has not been good for a number of years. Two years ago last December she had a stroke of paralysis and has been confined to her bed ever since.
Mrs. Pettengill moved to Cherokee county from Shawano county, Wis. in 1865, at a time when the site of the town was nothing but prairie. She leaves her son, Charles, and three daughters to mourn. The funeral occurred on Thursday, the services being conducted at the house by Rev. Wilson, Pastor of the Christian Church, and the remains interred in Oak Hill Cemetery.
