AN OLD SETTLER GONE - Mrs. John French of Amherst Passed Away Saturday Last
Marcus News: Mrs. John French, Sr., for many years a resident of Amherst passed away Saturday last after long suffering of paralysis and heart failure, aged about 61 years. She was born September 20, 1840 in Toronto, Canada and was united in marriage to John French January 16, 1858. Of this union, six children were born; five boys and one girl, all of whom are living.
Mrs. French was a kind and indulging lady and a most devoted mother. She was an excellent neighbor and a lady who was devoted to her husband and family. She was known for her many virtues, her social and amiable ways. She was a devoted Christian and a woman of more than ordinary ability.
Those who are left behind to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother, have the sympathy of all in this great sorrow.
The remains were interred in the Marcus cemetery on Sunday last, followed to their last resting place by a very large concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends.Source: The Cherokee Democrat Semi-Weekly, Friday, August 30, 1901, Pg. 1
