Hazel Mae Schnell, 97, of Cherokee died Tuesday, Oct 2, 2001 at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee.

Visitation was Oct 4 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, with the family present in the evening.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Oct 5, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cherokee, with the Rev. Gary Armstrong officiating. Burial followed in the Afton Township Cemetery, Cherokee.

She was born May 6, 1904 in Plankinton, S.D. to John and Elizabeth Breidenbach Saville.

She attended school and graduated from Plankinton High School, then attended Nettleton Business College and worked as a secretary in Huron, S.D. for several years.

On Dec. 14, 1926, she married Oliver Schnell in Plankinton. They moved to Cherokee in 1927. Mrs. Schnell worked at Cherokee Draperies for many years. Mr. Schnell died July 31, 1994.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Married Meeters Club.

She is survived by one son, Donald Schnell of Columbus Junction.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, George Saville, and one sister, Mabel Hebron.
