Vernon J. Ehlers, 66, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 29, 1999 at 11 pm in the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 1 at 1:30 pm from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Mr. Karl Peterson and Mr. Mario Kamp will officiate and burial will be in the Meriden Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 pm at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1 pm until 8 pm at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
He was born on October 28, 1932 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Dietrich & Myrtle (Lamont) Ehlers. He graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was a member of the First Church of Christ and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1944 and prior to this lived on a farm in the Cleghorn area.
He is survived by several cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister.
