DIED.

HOLLY-At his residence in Cherokee township, Cherokee county, Iowa, on Wednesday, January 21, 1891, W.D. F. Holly aged 56 years, 4 months and 14 days.

We had time last week for only the announcement of Mr. Holly’s death, which occurred a few hours before going to press. The news of his death was a shock to the entire community, as but a few days before he had been seen in his usual heath. His death was caused by a trouble of the heart, supposed to have been brought on by arterial rheumatism. The funeral services were held at the homestead on Saturday afternoon and were largely attended, attesting the worth of the deceased as a citizen and a neighbor.

The deceased was one of the well-known early settlers of Cherokee county. He was born in Richland county, Ohio, Sept. 7, 1834, his parents being David A. and Eva Holly. In his infancy his parents decided to remove further west and located in Lee county, Ill., where they were among the early settlers. His father built the first log cabin in Lee county outside of the town of Dixon. In 1864 W.D.F. Holly enlisted in 140th Illinois Volunteer Infantry and served six months. He was united in marriage March 7, 1867, in Lee county, Ill., with Miss Mahala Lautz, a native of Ohio. In 1870 he came to Cherokee and bought his present farm and has since resided here. Mr. and Mrs. Holly were the parents of eight children: Grace E., B.F., Dora M., William G., Edna, Charles, Eva A. and Alice V. To wife and children the sympathy of the entire community goes out in great measure.
