John W. Mongan,
52, Cherokee

John W. Mongan, 52, Cherokee, died suddenly Saturday of an apparent heart attack, while ice fishing with his wife. He had been a resident of Cherokee County his entire life.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cherokee. Rev. Shusil Joseph will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. Greenwood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Tuesday.

John was born April 16, 1938 in Cherokee to Elliott and Marie Mueller Mongan. He attended Cherokee schools, graduating from Washington High School in 1956. He was a member of the U.S. Marines serving in Okinawa. On June 4, 1962 he married Rose Faye Miller in Marcus. Mr. Mongan did painting and wallpapering for many people and was owner of Mongan Cherokee Decorating. He was a member of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Cherokee County Pheasants Forever.

He is survived by his wife Rose, of Cherokee

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
