Lawrence Mongan

Lawrence G. Mongan, 61, rural Cherokee, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Sioux City, after a long illness.

He was born Jan 9, 1915, in Aurelia to Charles and Carrie Hilliary Mongan. On Nov 6, 1941, he married Jeanette McClain in Tekamah, Neb. Mr. Mongan had farmed until ill health forced his retirement 10 years ago.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Loren and Rodney, both of Cherokee; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Sheryl) Namanny, Cherokee; four grandchildren; brothers, Carroll Mongan, Cherokee and Ralph Mongan, Aurelia, and a sister Mrs. Freeman Conley, Cherokee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glen.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Congregational United Church of Christ, Aurelia. The Rev. John Prickett will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. The Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, is in charge of arrangements.
