Raymond E Hasenwinkel, 73, of Cherokee, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 1994 in the Hilltop Care Center following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Sat. Nov. 19, at 2:00 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Jeff Krueger officating. Buriel was in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee with Boothby Funeral Home in charge of arrangments. Military gravesite rights were conducted by the American Legion Post 390 of
Aurelia.

Ray was born Mar., 16, 1920 at Bottineau N.D. to Fred and Emma (Zorn) Hasenwinkel. He was baptized in the family home on Mar., 19, 1920. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for a number of years. He was married to Muriel Blake on Feb.16 1953 in Cherokee , Iowa. He had lived and farmed in Silver and Afton Townships for many years until retiring and moving to Cherokee in 1987. He was a veteran of WW ll serving in the U.S. Army. Ray received the Bronze Star for bravery. He was a member of the American Legion Post 390 in Aurelia.

He is survived by his wife Muriel; one brother Merlin Hasenwinkel and his wife, Frances of Aurelia one sister ,Emily Otte and her husband Elmer of Primghar , also several nieces and nephews

He was preceeded in death by his parents and
one brother; Leland Hasenwinkel and one sister, Dorothy Golnitz.
