MARCUS, Iowa - Robert C. "Bob" Hagey, 83, of Marcus died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus with the Rev. Richard Remmes officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery with military rites by F.I. Goodburn American Legion Post 517 of Marcus.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Earnest and Roethler Funeral Chapel in Marcus.

Mr. Hagey was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Burlington Junction, Mo., the son of William and Tina (Archer) Hagey. He moved to Marcus in 1926 and graduated from Marcus High School in 1936. He received an offer to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team after graduation from high school. He married Mary Jaminet on Oct. 20, 1942, in Neosho, Mo. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 and spent 13 months in England. After his discharge he returned to Marcus and joined his father in the operation of Hagey Decorating which he later operated until 1983.

He was an avid sports fan and sponsored and coached little league baseball. He enjoyed horseshoes, fishing, gardening and cooking. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and was a 50-year member of F.I. Goodburn American Legion Post 517.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Grant of Phoenix; two daughters, Diane Froiland of Brookings, S.D. and Deb and her husband, Conrad Ebert of Marcus; a daughter-in-law, Debra Hagey of Remsen; a brother and his wife, Edgar and Esther Hagey of Marcus; seven grandchildren, Holly, Michael, and Jessica Hagey, Justin and Erick Froiland, and Danielle and Alex Ebert.

He was preceded in death by a sister in infancy; a son, Steve; and a son-in-law, Rick Froiland.
