Pioneer Resident
Called by Death

Mres. Mahala Alfretta Phipps,
wife of F. F. Phipps, died Monday
about noon at the family home in
Afton, after protracted illness, at
the age of 63 years, 9 months and
29 days. Deceased was the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Welker,
pioneers, and had been a resident
of Cherokee county for 55
years. She is survived by her husband
and three children. Frank
Welker of Cherokee is a brother.
Funeral services will be conducted
Thursday at 2 p. m. by Dr. J. J.
Bushnell at the Methodist church in
Cherokee. Interment will be made at Oak Hill.
