Philo Sleezer

Was born in New York state June 6, 1821 and departed this life June 6, 1903 at the ripe age of 79 years. In 1856 Mr. Sleezer commenced life for himself going from his new York home to the far west, Illinois, settling near Gridley in that state where he resided until 1873 when he again set his face westward and settled in this county engaging in farming which occupation he followed until about five years ago when he retired locating in this city where he kept house until about three years ago when his wife died, since which time he has lived with his children, being with his daughter, Mrs. Thos. Dewar, of this city at the time of his death. In early manhood he was married and as a result of that union leaves seven children to mourn his departure, three sons and four daughters as follows: John, Charles and William Sleezer, all of this city, and Mrs. Biddle, of Kansas, Mrs. Kate Fairweather and Mrs. Nattie Dewar, of Cherokee, and Jennie, now married and living in South Dakota but whose name was are unable to learn.

Mr. Sleezer many years ago joined the Baptist church in this city and remained a consistent member thereof to the time of death. The funeral services were held from the residence of Thos. Dewar at 11 a.m. this morning, conducted by Rev Weston, of the Baptist church.
