L.F. CaveLeland Floyd Cave, son of George and Alice Cave was born January 14, 1880, in Cherokee county, and passed away at his home in Afton Township on Tuesday morning, October 21, 1941, being 61 years, 9 months and 14 days old.
Mr. Cave grew to manhood in Afton Township, and apart from one and a half years which he spent home-steading in South Dakota, he spent his entire life in Cherokee and Buena Vista counties.
On February 23, 1910, he was united in marriage to Opal Menefee of Afton Township. To this union one child was born, Mildred, who resides at the home place.
Mr. Cave was a charter member of the Cherokee County Farm Bureau, and took an active interest in its development and activities.
In 1921 Mr. Cave united with the Methodist Church in Aurelia, during the pastorate of G.R. Gilbert, and through the years has taken an active part in the work of the Church. He was a member of the Official Board of the Church for many years, and could always be counted upon to do his part in the work. He was also an active member of the Men's Brotherhood. Only last Sunday he was in his accustomed place in the worship service.
He belonged to a family of pioneers. His parents came to Cherokee county by covered wagon in 1879, and with others helped to develop this part of the state into the rich agricultural community that it has become. They moved here from Ogle County, Ill.
Mr. Cave leaves to mourn his passing, hsi wife and daughter, three brothers and one sister. They are William, Frank, Purl, and Mrs. Claude Young, all of Cherokee, beside a host of neighbors and friends.
He has been in failing health for nearly two years, but the end came with startling suddenness. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is not dead, this friend. Not dead, But in the path we mortals tread; Got some few trifling steps ahead, And nearer to the end. So that we, too, once past the bend, Shall meet again, as face to face, this friend We fancy dead
