Member Well Known Marcus FamilySecond Lieut. Dale Barnes, 32, of Marcus, was killed in action somewhere in Italy January 22 according to a telegram received from the War Department by his father, Ray O. Barnes.
In the Army a year and a half, Lieut. Barnes was stationed at Camp Carson, Colo., and later attended officer’s training school at Fort Sill, Okla. He was sent overseas October, 1943, with the field artillery and was stationed in North Africa before going to Italy.
Born in Marcus, he is a graduate of the Marcus high school and of the University of Iowa. He is survived by his wife Harriett, of Cherokee; his father and his sister, Mrs. E. F. Moeller, of Sioux City, and his grandfather, F. J. Carpenter, of Cherokee.
