Luella Bertha Friederike Nothwehr, 92, passed away on Jan. 30, 2009. Funeral services were held on Feb. 2 at St. John's United Church of Christ in rural Peterson. Rev. Charles Hall officiated the service. Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery, rural Peterson. Warner Funeral Home in Spencer was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Luella Bertha Friederike Nothwehr, the daughter of Chris C. and Martha Luetkeman Felten, was born Dec. 23, 1916 on a farm in Spring Township in Cherokee County. Her childhood years were spent on the farm, where she was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church near Peterson. She received her education at Brooke Consolidated School, from which she graduated in 1936.

Luella was united in marriage to Arthur John Fred Nothwehr on Feb. 23, 1938, at the St. John's Church in rural Peterson. Following their marriage, they started farming in Cherokee County. They farmed until his retirement in 1975, at which time they moved into Peterson. Luella was an active member of St. John's Church, Women's Fellowship, Bible School, and was superintendent and a teacher in the Sunday school. Luella was also active in several women's groups, including Farm Bureau Women of Cherokee County while on the farm and in Peterson. She enjoyed raising flowers, bowling, playing cards, and she and Arthur enjoyed dancing and traveling. She often enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In December of 2003, she moved with Arthur to Wel-Life Assisted Living in Alta.

Luella passed away on Jan. 30 at Wel Life in Alta. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; one sister, Helen Sump Judson and two brothers: Alfred Felten and Chris Edward Felten.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Wanda Donahoo and her husband, Robert C. of Peterson; Wendell Nothwehr and his wife, Carlene of Peterson; Lowell Nothwehr of Aurelia and Faye Capps and her husband, Dennis of San Marcos, Calif; 11 grandchildren: Debra Maske, Susan Donahoo, Robert A. Donahoo, Jeanne Repas, David Donahoo, Carla Richardson, Rodney Nothwehr, Robin Singer, Paula Rolfes, Lindsey Capps and Robin Capps; 15 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ora Honsbruch of Alta and Betty Laursen of Peterson; in-laws Gloria Felten of Aurelia, Betty Franken of Schaller, Erna Nothwehr of Clarinda and Delbert and Viola Herzberg of Seward Neb.; and other relatives and many friends.
