HENRY E. JOHNSON
(October 26, 1926 - January 27, 2009)

U.S. Veteran HENRY E. JOHNSON, 82, of Washta, Iowa and former rural Aurelia area resident, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Sunrise Retirement Community.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jim Steen will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. There will be military rites at the cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. at the Church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Henry was born October 19, 1926 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Hjalmer and Elin (Samuelson) Johnson. He attended Grand Meadow Consolidated School and in 1941 he was baptized and confirmed in the Carmel Evangelical Lutheran Church at Marcus, Iowa Henry served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was married to Colleen Hanson on September 14, 1958 in Cherokee, Iowa. He had farmed north of Aurelia for many years, moving to Washta on February 1, 2003. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Henry enjoyed music, dancing, dogs and going to farm sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Colleen on September 14, 2007, his step-mother Kerstin Johnson and step-sister Maj-Britt Gibson.

He is survived by one son, Charles Brown and his wife Holly of Burnsville, Minnesota; two grandchildren Lindsey and Chasson Brown; one brother Jack Johnson and his wife Janina of Aurelia, Iowa; a sister Rosa Johnson of Holdrege, Nebraska, 11 nieces and nephews.
