DANIEL H. RAYMOND
U.S. Veteran DANIEL H. RAYMOND, 51, of Denver, Colorado and former Storm Lake and Cherokee resident passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Hospice Center of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa following a battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 15th, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Daniel was born June 2, 1957 in Cherokee, Iowa to Harold and Arlene (Cave) Raymond. He grew up in Cherokee, graduating from Washington High School in the Class of 1976. He was married to Sharon DeBoer on October 28, 1978 at Ellsworth, Minnesota. They moved to Storm Lake in 1979 and Dan worked for Pester Derby/Coastal Mart as a convenience Store Manager. He was promoted to area manager and moved to Sioux City in 1995, to Loveland, Colorado in 2000 and to Lakewood, Colorado in 2002. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Family meant everything to him. In 1981 he moved to Cherokee to help raise his 5 nieces and nephews after the death of his sister. He was always a strong presence in their lives and was involved in their and his own children’s activities. Dan was a huge sports enthusiast including watching, and attending Iowa Hawkeyes, Broncos, Rockies and Cubs games. He coached and supported his son and his nephews in sports. He was a proud new grandpa in January of 2008. Even though his time was short, Sam was his pride and joy. He loved golf, ball games and all family time, especially at Lake Okoboji and in Colorado. He was a dedicated employee with the Pester Derby/Coastal for 30 years. He loved working with his co-workers and his customers and took great pride in his stores. Dan loved everyone he knew. Because he touched so many lives, his legacy of kindness and his zest for life will live on in all of us.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Shirley Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, one son John Raymond and his wife Sarah and their son Sam of Charles City, Iowa; a daughter Ann Raymond of Mason City, Iowa; three nephews: Mike Noah and his wife Deb of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Tom Noah and his wife Mary of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Richard Noah and his wife Amy of Spencer, Iowa; two nieces: Betty Curran of Ankeny, Iowa; Tonya Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa; 10 great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
