JANET LURENE HUBER, 83, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Monday evening, January 5, 2009 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9th, at 10:30 a.m. the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan D. Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Friday. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Jan was born August 10, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Lael and Lurene (Swope) DeLand. She graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1943. She attended Buena Vista College and the University of Minnesota studying art. She was married to James E. Huber on November 18, 1944 at Worthington, Minnesota. The couple had lived in Cherokee since 1946. She was the secretary at Washington High School from 1965 until 1980. She was the Tomahawk Relays Honorary Referee in 1977 and was named Honorary Assistant Wrestling Coach during the 1978 school year. Beta Sigma Phi honored her as Lady of the Year in 1984. She was a member and Elder of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, a former Sunday School teacher and youth leader, a member of Church Circle #4, was very active on the Christian Education Committee for many years; had also served on various other committees in the church; United Presbyterian Women; was a P.E.O, did volunteer work at the Cherokee Villa. She loved collecting antique dolls and sharing them with others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael Huber in 1963.

She is survived by her husband James, and one daughter, Lynn Kintigh and her husband David of Cherokee, Iowa; two granddaughters: Dannielle Wimer and her husband Chris of Fremont, Nebraska; Ashley Mizner of Cherokee, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren: Jacob, Cory, Abigail, Avery, Grady, and Cully; one sister Barbara Kearney and her husband Dick of Storm Lake, Iowa; a brother Roger Kislingbury and his friend Patricia Duncan of Dallas, Texas.
