Loran W. Hardin, 96, of Larrabee, Iowa died Monday December 22, 2008 in the Happy Siesta Nursing Home, Remsen, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 26, 2008 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Jud Stover will officiate. Burial will be in the Primghar Cemetery, Primghar, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Loran was born on September 24, 1912 near Primghar, Iowa to Hal and Barbara (Nimberger) Hardin. He attended school in Primghar, Iowa. On August 31, 1940 he married Laura Schueder. She preceded him in death December 28, 1978. On September 20, 1980 he married Elsie Westphal in Cherokee, Iowa. Loran lived and farmed in the same area near Primghar, Iowa, all of his life. In 1970 he retired and moved to the town of Primghar where he resided until 1980, when he moved to Larrabee, Iowa. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, and traveling with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; two daughters, Shelia Van Der Sloot and her husband, Harold, of Sibley, IA; Helene Handeland and her husband, Gary, of Fountain, CO; a son, Lawrence Hardin and his wife, Gaylene, of Archer, IA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Laura; brothers, Roy and Westin Hardin; a sister Evelyn Armbrust.
