Marthena Scott, 77, of Meriden, died Wednesday Nov. 26, 2008 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Marthena was born on June 9, 1931 in Cherokee, to Olaf and Flossie (Smith) Johnson. She attended Cherokee County School through the 8th grade, and on Dec. 20, 1947 she married Harry Scott in Quimby. He preceded her in death in 1984. Marthena worked at the Gregg Nursing Home in Cherokee and also worked as a cook for the Meriden-Cleghorn community schools. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to auctions, and fishing. She especially liked spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry and two brothers, Mitchell and Russell Johnson.

She is survived by her son, David Scott and his wife, Meredith, of Meriden; three daughters, Dorothy Schulz and her husband, Albert, of LeMars; Gloria McCoy and her special friend Mike Roe of Cherokee; Glenda Ames and her husband, Dale, of LeMars; eight grandchildren, Brian Scott and his wife, Deanna; Amy Friedrichsen and her husband, Loren; Lisa Ashley and her husband, Tom; Lori Krause and her husband, Wendell; Tony Ross and his wife, Kim; Mason McCoy; Adam Godfrey; Casey Godfrey; six great-grandchildren, Gracie, Brent, and Abby Scott; Trent Sutter; Maddie and Ella Friedrichsen; four step great-grandchildren, Derek and Ashley Krause; Sherri Waterhouse; April Wiederholt; four sisters, Viona Henderson of Park Rapids, Minn.; Bernice Spinelli of Aurelia; Hazel Anfinson of Chandler; Marcella Moos of Arizona; two brothers, Ivan Johnson of Sedalia, Mo.; Jerry Johnson of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson and Joan Johnson; many nieces and nephews.
