(September 16, 1947 - November 7, 2008)

BARBARA R. FREY, 61, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday, November 7, 2008 near Beresford, South Dakota due to injuries in an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. The Rev. Ethan D. Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com

Barbara was born September 16, 1947 at Cedar Falls, Iowa to Glenn and Agnes Viola (Taylor) Van Hauen. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1966. She attended Wartburg College and the University of Iowa. She was married to Marvin Frey on August 23, 1969 at the United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The couple had made their home in Cherokee the past 34 years, prior to this in Paullina for 4 years and in Waverly for 4 years. She had worked for the Department of Human Services for 25 years, serving the O’Brien County Office, the office in Cherokee/Plymouth Counties, the Sioux City District Office, the Plains Area Mental Health Center in Cherokee and as therapist for Associates for Psychological & Therapy Services in Sioux City and Cherokee area. She had also worked for the Buena Vista Work Activities Center in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and several professional organizations. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and especially her time spent with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her husband Marvin, and three children: Travis Frey of Iowa; Ami Burch and her husband Matt of Cherokee, Iowa; Darrin Frey and Erica Bezoni of Cherokee; 6 grandchildren: Alexa Brewster, Tia & Kia Frey, Katlynn & Jadyn Burch and Hayley Frey; her mother Viola Van Hauen of Waterloo, Iowa; three brothers and one sister: Mark Van Hauen and his wife Joan of Clive, Iowa; John Van Hauen and his wife Vicki of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Scott Van Hauen of Janesville, Iowa; Glenda Husome of Waterloo, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
