OLGA L. BERN
(April 23, 1922 - October 24, 2008)

OLGA L. BERN, 86, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, October 24, 2008 in the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Olga was born on April 23, 1922 at Meriden, Iowa to Gust and Ida (Schmidt) Benson. She attended Meriden Community School and graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1940. She was married to Kenneth H. Bern on January 29, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa. She had worked at Swezey’s Hamburger Shop in Cherokee and at Brown Auto Supply as their billing clerk for many years, retiring in 1999. She was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County, Iowa. She was a member of the Cherokee Booster Club and the Buena Vista University Sports Booster Club. Olga enjoyed traveling to all kinds of sporting events with her husband Kenny, bowling, watching sports, creating photo albums and following family members activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers John, Carl, Walter, Vernon “Pete”, Robert, and Harold “Butch” Benson; 3 sisters Mary Franchs, Norma Hanson and Dorothy Griffin; 3 sisters-in-law Marion Lewis, Gladys Benson and Delores Benson; a brother-in-law William Griffin; 2 nephews.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth Bern of Cherokee, Iowa; 4 sisters-in-law: Connie Benson, Joan Benson, Deloris Benson and LaVerne Magnussen all of Cherokee and many nieces and nephews.
