Marion W. Cresap

Marion W. Cresap, 76, of Cherokee passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at his home in Cherokee due to an apparent heart attack.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Kruger officiating. Marion will be cremated following the services, and burial will be at a later date in Nemaha Cemetery at Nemaha, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m., today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Marion was born on July 13, 1932, at Underwood, N.D., to Everett and Susie (Souther) Cresap. He was married to Edith Leid on April 17, 1959, at Spokane, Wash. He had worked for Boeing Aircraft for a few years while living in Washington. After moving to Cherokee in 1969, he had worked as a farmhand and worked as a mechanic for Schnoes Auto Repair for many years. He had also worked at Obeco Inc. until its closing and was currently employed at Simonsen's Inc. in Quimby, Iowa.

He enjoyed all kinds of mechanic work, welding, riding horses in his younger days, collecting horses, watching old western movies and going to Carey's for coffee. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 729 in Cherokee. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1969 and prior to this had lived in Rembrandt and Larrabee, Iowa.

He is survived by his three children, Robert Cresap and his wife, Marilyn of Louisville, Ky., Richard Cresap and his wife, Cindy and Rena Handke and her husband, Randy, all of Shepherdsville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters and two brothers, Ethel Rupp and her husband, DuWayne of Cherokee, Esther Wood and her husband, Kenneth of Wapato, Wash., Lillie O'Brien and her husband, Maurice of Spokane, Wash., Earl Cresap of Larrabee, Iowa, and Charles Cresap of Lowell, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith on Sept. 13, 2008; and a great-grandson.
