Long-time Cherokee resident Harriet M. Love (Sjostrom), 90, died suddenly on Aug. 2, 2008, at her assisted living residence in Norman, Okla.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12. A private burial will take place at Oakhill Cemetery at a future date.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee or the Cherokee Public Library.

Harriet was born on Feb. 4, 1918, in Marcus. Her parents were Sena and Ernst Sjostrom. She grew up in Cherokee, attended Cherokee public schools, and graduated from Cherokee High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and worked as a children's librarian at the Cherokee Public Library.

She later married Dale E. Barnes of Marcus. Dale died in action in World War Two, several months before the birth of their daughter, Linda Dale, in April, 1944. Harriet and Linda lived with Harriet's parents in Cherokee until Linda was six years old.

In 1950, Harriet married Ivan Love of Cherokee and their marriage lasted fifty years. For almost all that time, they lived on Euclid Avenue in Cherokee.

They were members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. They enjoyed their many friends, dancing, attending local activities such as football games and the Cherokee County Fair, and visiting seasonal events in the towns surrounding Cherokee.

They had a small cottage on Lake West Okoboji and enjoyed many summers there. Their granddaughters Sena and Erica loved coming to the lake to visit their grandparents, and to the house on Euclid Avenue for many Christmas celebrations.

Harriet also had a close relationship with her three sisters, all of whom lived in Northwest Iowa and with whom she shared many happy occasions. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and visiting the Cherokee Public Library.

Ivan died in 2001, and a year later Harriet moved to Norman, Okla., to be close to her daughter Linda. During her years in Norman, she developed fast friendship with Linda's friends and Linda's dog, Harry.

Harriet is survived by her daughter Linda Krug and son-in-law Peter Krug, who live in Norman, Oklahoma, and their daughters Sena (Seattle, Wash.) and Erica Krug (Madison, Wis.). She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan, her parents Sena and Ernst Sjostrom, her sisters Agnes Leonard, Bessie Anderson, and Janette Prince, and her brothers Cecil and Ray Sjostrom.
