(June 21, 1944 - May 21, 2008)

GENE A. CEDAR, 63, of rural Meriden, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 12:38 a.m. at his farm home due to an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan Sayler and Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Gene was born on June 21, 1944 at Cherokee, Iowa to Arvid & Esther (Anderson) Cedar. He attended grade school in Meriden and graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1962. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Degree in Agri-Business in 1966. He served one enlistment in the U. S. Army Reserve. He had farmed all his life in Sheridan Township. Gene was married to Donna Marie Mentzer on March 1, 1975 at Odebolt, Iowa. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church where he had also served on the Board of Trustees; a member of the Little Sioux Red Power Tractor Club and the 2CYL Tractor Club of Spencer, Iowa. He enjoyed working on antique tractors and cars, spending time with his family and displaying his tractors at the Clay County Fair with the 2CYL Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Donna; one son Neil Gene Cedar of Ames, Iowa; one brother Paul Cedar and his wife Marilyn of Cherokee, Iowa; nephews and nieces: John Cedar and his wife Val of Cherokee, Iowa; Marla Kuettler and her husband Tom of Woodridge, Illinois; Jim Cedar and his wife Gayle of Cherokee, Iowa; Mark Cedar and his wife Penne of Cherokee, Iowa; Karen Peterson and her husband John of Cherokee, Iowa; his mother-in-law Helen Mentzer of Schaller, Iowa; brothers-in-law Ken & Linda Mentzer of Holstein, Iowa; Bruce & Jackie Mentzer of Schaller, Iowa; Rick & Brenda Mentzer of Schaller, Iowa; also great nieces and great nephews, and many cousins.
