Thomas J. Christensen, 47, former long time Cherokee resident, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at his home in Aurelia.
Funeral services were held April 19 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Father Armand Bertrand officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Thomas was born April 13, 1961 in Cherokee to James R. and Margaret (Tippy) Christensen. He graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1980, and was married to Karen Ernst on June 3, 1994 at the I. C. Church in Cherokee. The couple had lived in Aurelia since January of 2008, prior to this in Cherokee. Tom had worked at the Hy-Vee Warehouse in Cherokee from June of 1981 to July of 2007. He had also worked part time at the Filter Recycling Plant north of Cherokee. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Aurelia and Marcus Golf Course. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, horses, golfing, working and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his father James Christensen, his mother Margaret Mogensen, his grandparents and an uncle.
He is survived by his wife Karen of Aurelia and two sisters: Julie Huval and her husband Burney of Loreauville, La.; Deanna Jarvis and her husband Steven of Wildomar, Calif.; and an uncle Marvin Christensen and his wife Joann of Cherokee; a great aunt Ann Johnson and her husband Art of Vermillion, S.D. many nieces and nephews.
