Iola H. Ross, 86, of Cherokee, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega officiated. Burial was in the Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Iola was born March 5, 1922 in Peterson to Ira and Iva (Stier) Small. She was raised in the Peterson area and attended Brooke School graduating in May of 1941. She was married to Maynard Ross March 27, 1942 in Cherokee. She had worked at the Western Auto Hardware in Cherokee and at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for many years, retiring on June 3, 1993. She was a member of the Degree of Honor, L. A. Wescott Post #2253 V. F. W. Auxiliary, and the Women's Relief Corp. She enjoyed embroidery work and plants. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maynard in 1969, a daughter Cheryl Morrow in 1968 and a brother Harold "Bud" Small.

She is survived by four children: Merlin Ross of Cherokee; Steve Ross and his wife Julie of Aurelia; Maynard Ross Jr. and his wife Mickey of Cherokee; Karen Reusch and her husband Phil of Cherokee; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Letha Smith of Aurelia; Gladys Willis of Yuba City, Calif.; two brothers: Donald Small and his wife Virginia of Nashville, Tenn.; Larry Small and his wife Wilma of Spirit Lake; a sister-in-law Ruth Small of Sioux Rapids.
