Roderick Q. Waller, 88, of Cherokee, formerly a longtime Quimby, Iowa resident, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at his residence with his family by his side.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ethan Sayler officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery, Marcus, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Roderick was born Feb. 15, 1920, in rural Cleghorn, Iowa, to Joseph Aaron and Ethel (Booth) Waller. He attended rural school in Tilden Township and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1938.

He was married to Phyllisjune Wallen on Oct. 28, 1945, at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in rural Marcus, Iowa. He worked in a garage for a short time and then farmed in Grand Meadow Township for 65 years, retiring in 1999. The couple moved to Cherokee in 2006.

He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and a longtime elder of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He was a 50-year member of the Little Sioux Lodge 521 in Washta, Iowa, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Alta, Iowa. He also was a Farm Bureau member. He enjoyed traveling, carpentry work, camping, photography, collecting antiques and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllisjune; five children, David Waller and his wife, Sheryl of Bailey, Colo., Peggy Ethel and her husband, Bruce Worthington of Centennial, Colo., Janet Kay Galles and her life partner, Clip Schreuder of Aurelia, Iowa, Beth and her husband, Jim Harger of Greeley, Colo., and Wayne Waller of Cherokee; 12 grandchildren, Mike and Michelle Archer, Matt and Kristen Archer, Mikelle Archer, Sarah Galles, Luke Galles and his fiancee, Michelle Shoults, Jonathan Waller, Jennifer Waller, Jessica and Bobby Fann, Roderick Harger, Jami and Jerry Vigil, Jacqueline Harger and her life partner, Michael Johnson and Alexander Harger; nine great-grandchildren, Brinleigh, Jackson, Taylor, Riley, Camie, Ahnika, Ena, Rowa and Autumn; a brother and his wife, Max and Donna Waller of Cherokee; two sisters-in-law, Billie Waller of Marcus, Iowa, and Veramae Rowse of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Clayton and Mary Lou Waterbury of Sergeant Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Aaron Waller; and a sister, Vivian Christian.

The family requests that memorials be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund.
