Norman Leo Morton, 75, of Terre Haute, Ind., and formerly of Cherokee and Albia, passed away peacefully at 8:40 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 2008. In keeping with his wishes, cremation is scheduled, with a memorial and burial to take place during the Morton family reunion in Cherokee in mid- June. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory of Terre Haute, Ind. was entrusted with arrangements. Anyone wishing to make a charitable contribution in his memory is asked to do so to Albia Community Theatre, at P.O. Box 338 Albia, Iowa, 52531.

Norman was born in Cherokee on Feb. 8, 1933, at home, to Fay Morton and Helen Reed Morton. He worked as dietary supervisor for many years at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Albia, until his retirement.

While working at the hospital Norman enjoyed entertaining children in the hospital as both a clown and Santa Claus. He was also active in Community Theatre in Albia. After retirement he traveled extensively, and volunteered for several years at Sisters of Mercy Hospital, on the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Fred, LeRoy, Jim, and Bob, a sister Velda Watkins, two brothers-in-law, Alvin Watkins, and Frankie Morrow; and two sisters-in-law, Arlene and Wilma.

He is survived by his sisters, Donna Morrow of Cherokee, and Mary (Jack) Meller of Solon Springs, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Morton of Boise, Idaho, and Betty Morton of Cherokee. He is also survived by his ex-wife and special friend Dolly Morton, countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
