Ronald D. Schumann

Ron Schumann, 37, of Cherokee, Iowa died Saturday February 2, 2008 as a result of injuries received from a car accident near Aurelia, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday February 6, 2008 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 300 East Bow Drive in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor James Steen will officiate. Burial will be in the Swan Cemetery, Swan, Iowa, on Thursday February 7, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. with Pastor John Claussen officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Greenwood Funeral Home, 216 South Second, Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Ron was born on May 18, 1970 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ron and Loretta (Waul) Schumann. He attended school in Pleasantville, Iowa and also Cherokee, Iowa graduating in 1989. Following high school he attended Northwestern College in Orange City for two years, where he ran track. Ron excelled in all of his sports activities, and was one of only two young men that lettered in every sport that Cherokee offered.

Ron worked for Schutt Construction while attending college and later Wilson Packing Plant of Cherokee, Iowa. Ron most recently worked for Hy-Vee Distribution Center in Chariton, Iowa and Cherokee, Iowa and one of his favorite activities was helping out at the Cherokee Country Club in ground and greens maintenance.

Ron was a member of the Little Sioux Wildlife Association and the Cherokee Country Club. He also played softball in the recreation league in Cherokee, enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, league dart tournaments, and Florida State athletics. Ron had a fun loving personality that everyone loved to be around and his greatest enjoyment was entertaining his friends.

He is survived by his parents, Ron and Loretta Schumann; sisters, Jeanie Murphy and her husband, Ray, of Swan, Iowa; Barbara Lerdal and her husband, Roger, of Thornton, Iowa; brothers, Larry Schumann and his wife, Jennifer, of Madrid, Iowa; William Schumann, of Cherokee, Iowa and his girl friend, Angela Maas, of Omaha, Nebraska; a grandmother, Rena Waul of Cherokee, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a cousin Terry Schumann, his grandparents, William and Cleo Schumann, and Emmett Waul.
