Troy N. Valentine

Troy N. Valentine, 68, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Thursday January 24, 2008 in the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls due to complications following surgery.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday January 28, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Troy was born on May 12, 1939 in Spencer, Iowa to Edward and Ruby (Floodman) Valentine. Early in Troy’s life he acquired a step-father, Lee Howe, who raised Troy and was a great influence in his life. Troy graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1956. Following his graduation Troy served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956- 1960. On December 5, 1959 he married Jeanine Struck in Van Nuys, California. In January of 1961 he was hired with the Cherokee Police Department. During his career he attained the rank of Captain and also became the Chief of Police in Cherokee. He retired in 1993.

Troy and Jeanine had been residents of Sioux Falls, South Dakota since 1994.

Troy’s greatest comfort was his wife, Jeanine; His greatest satisfaction was his law enforcement co-workers and friends; His greatest joy were his children and grandchildren. Troy greatly enjoyed watching them in all of their activities. He was a member of the Iowa State Police Association and the Iowa State Reserve Police Association.

Troy is survived by his wife, Jeanine; a son, Troy Valentine and his wife, Leanne, of Cherokee, Iowa; two daughters, Lori Bruder and her husband, Steve, of Sibley, Iowa; Lisa Hoover and her husband, Jeff, of Marshall, Minnesota; grandchildren, Joe and Karlee Bruder; Alanna and Trey Valentine; Collin, Cami, and Cassie Hoover; mother-in-law, Helen Struck of Cherokee, Iowa, and the entire Struck Family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father; father-in-law, Ray Struck.
