Mary E. (Delperdang) Hanson

Mary Hanson, 84, of Cherokee, Iowa died Monday December 10, 2007, at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be held Friday December 14, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., with a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Mary was born on June 9, 1923 in rural Remsen, Iowa to Arthur and Ida (Wilberding) Delperdang. She was educated in Cherokee, Iowa. On November 10, 1943 she married Kenneth Hanson at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee, Iowa. He preceded her in death, March 10, 2007. Mary worked at the M.H.I. in the Dietary Department for many years and also cleaned houses. She lived in Cherokee for the majority of her life. Mary enjoyed baby sitting, bingo, needlepoint, and cross-stitch.

Mary was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed listening to Polka music and participating in Bowling League

Survivors include sons, Ray Hanson, and his wife, Margaret, of Marcus, Iowa; Robert Hanson, and his wife, Rosella, of Cherokee, Iowa; Michael Hanson, and his wife, June, of Cherokee, Iowa; daughters, Anne Newman, and her husband, Ray, of Sioux City, Iowa; Mary Lou Carlson, and her husband, Albin, of Cherokee, Iowa; Sharon Grauer, and her husband, Joel, of Silver City, Iowa, sisters, Martha Tremain, of Seattle, Washington; Elva Johnson, of Cherokee, Iowa; Delores Sawvell, of Storm Lake, Iowa; a brother, Arthur Delperdang, of Sioux City, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother (Ray,) and a sister (Florance), a grandson (Lee Michael Carlson, 1978).
