Michael George Gianopoulos, 64, of Las Vegas, Nev. formerly of Cherokee, died on Nov. 22, 2007 at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev. following a lengthy illness. There was a private viewing followed by cremation. Remains were scattered at sea.

Mike was born in Cherokee on Jan. 23, 1943. He was a retired disabled Navy veteran. He was a sailor and a merchant seaman most of his life and loved the sea.

He is survived by his wife, Imelda Gianopoulos of Las Vegas, Nev, and his children, Mark Gianopoulos and his wife Kim of Las Vegas, Nev.; Christina Rohrer and her husband Martin of Henderson, Nev.; and Yvonne Sweeney of Storm Lake; step-children Christine and Juvell of the Philippines; Joshua of Las Vegas, Nev. and grandchildren Nicholas, Christopher, and Breanna Gianopoulos; Justin Leewright and Michael Sweeney; Brett and Allysa Rassel; and Kaci Rohrer. Michael is also survived by his brothers - Sam Gianopoulos and his wife Julliana; and John Gianopoulos and his wife Cheryl, all of Las Vegas, Nev. as well as several nieces and nephews.
